{"id":1142,"date":"2013-12-14T10:18:40","date_gmt":"2013-12-14T15:18:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/crossfieldcollection.com\/?p=1142"},"modified":"2018-12-02T10:52:17","modified_gmt":"2018-12-02T15:52:17","slug":"top-stove-meat-loaf","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/crossfieldcollection.com\/recipe\/top-stove-meat-loaf\/","title":{"rendered":"Top-Stove Meat Loaf"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/crossfieldcollection.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/topofstovemeatloaf_570.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1143\" src=\"http:\/\/crossfieldcollection.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/topofstovemeatloaf_570.jpg\" alt=\"TopOfStoveMeatLoaf\" width=\"570\" height=\"388\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>From the Kitchen of <strong>Barbara Humphrey<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1 1\/2 pounds ground beef<br \/>\n1\/2 cup dry bread crumbs<br \/>\n1\/4 cup finely chopped onion<br \/>\n1 can (10 3\/4 oz) tomato soup<br \/>\n1 egg, slightly beaten<br \/>\n1 teaspoon salt<br \/>\ngenerous dash pepper<br \/>\n1\/4 cup water<br \/>\n1\/2 teaspoon prepared mustard or horseradish<br \/>\n2 slices processed cheese<\/p>\n<p><strong>Top of Stove Method:<\/strong><br \/>\nThoroughly mix, beef, crumbs, 1\/4 cup soup, onion, egg, and seasonings. Shape firmly into 2 loaves. Brown on all sides in a skillet (to turn loaves use pancake turner.<br \/>\nCover and cook over low heat 25 minutes. Spoon off fat. Stir in remaining soup (omit adding water), water, and mustard.<br \/>\nTop loaves with cheese and pour soup all over all the top of the loaves. Cook until cheese melts.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Oven method:<\/strong><br \/>\nMix and shape into loaves as above. Bake at 350-degree oven for 40 minutes. Spoon off fat. Pour remaining soup (omit water) mixed with mustard on loaves.<br \/>\nTop with cheese slices and bake five more minutes until cheese melts.<\/p>\n<p>The recipe was given to me as a shower gift for my wedding 1982 by Barbara Humphrey.
